W3LL food: Grapefruit & Avocado Salad

Skin Food: Avocado & Grapefruit Salad - great for you and your skin!

The opening of your local farmers market means it is the season to add healthy foods into your diet, including plenty of salads. This grapefruit and avocado salad is incredibly good for you nutritionally, but will also help you have health skin that glows from within. Grapefruits and avocados are both  known for their antioxidant properties that help nourish, hydrate and condition. The Vitamin C in grapefruit can also help your body fight the skin damage caused by sun and pollution!

We love this salad because it’s easy to make and very versatile – serve it for breakfast with whole-grain toast or alongside your favorite entree fresh off the grill. It would  make a great topper for fish or steak! This salad is delicate, but it packs a flavor punch that we know your taste buds will appreciate!

Glow on, Natural Warrior!

Confessions of a #NaturalWarrior: Pure Barre Challenge at the W3LL PEOPLE Studio

For the past month, I have taken the Pure Barre challenge at the W3LL PEOPLE Flagship Studio in Austin, TX.  As I geared up for the final class this past Sunday, I was reflecting on how this workout affects my inner strength and beauty.  After the class, I looked in the mirror and asked myself “How do you feel?”  The first thing that popped in my head was “accomplished.”  Accomplished mentally, physically and in the deeper roots of my soul.  It was 11:30 on a Sunday and I had pushed my body and mind to be calmed and in sync.  Turning inward and shutting everything else out to focus on the micro movements that pushes you past the mental white noise that cannot otherwise be released.  Doing so allows you to visualize your muscles changing.  When I go to Pure Barre, I shut my eyes and visualize what the particular muscle I am working at that moment looks like and how I want it to look.  It transcends me into the ultimate shake that actually begins the changing process of your body.  While some people believe Sunday is the day of rest, This particular Sunday, I found the inner strength that leads to ultimate #NaturalBeauty.  Goal Accomplished.

We love knowing that skin is getting a dose of soothing aloe, green tea and chamomile throughout the day, rather than the average dose of parabens and petrochemicals!

Rumor Has It: We Break Down The Reality (& Dangers) Of Mineral Makeup

There’s been a lot of chatter lately about mineral makeup and its possible dangers. Long thought of to be a safe alternative to chemical-laden cosmetics, this perfect-blend alternative is suddenly coming under serious scrutiny. Many scientists are raising concerns about the effects of inhaling loose powder foundations, specifically mica, and lung damage.

We wanted to see if there was any validity to these rumors, so we caught up with makeup artist and W3ll People co-founder Shirley Pinkson to help separate fact from fiction. Check out this Q&A to find out if mineral makeup is really as safe as it claims.

From your perspective, is loose mineral makeup hazardous to your health?
“First off, it’s worth noting there are an alarming number of potential toxins the average person inhales on a daily basis. They come from our air, our water, our food, and even our cosmetics. That said, taking a look at cosmetics is no different than taking a look at what’s in your energy bar.
